Broome Farm

NO CREAM tea, I’m afraid, thanks to the rain, and no Ev either thanks to knackered feet. But photos were taken, mud was slipped on and cider was drunk. A result all round.

As you might have noticed, I went a tad nuts on the close-up pics. Ev and me are hoping to go back to Broome Farm once the weather clears up to have one of their amazingly huge and fantastic cream teas. Much fun has been had so far, especially with the adorable bundle of fun that is baby Sian (there are pics to come), and we’ve got trips to […]

Two pratts in a boat

WE’VE both wanted to hire a Duffy boat for ages, and for a birthday surprise Ev organised a trip around the bay for me*. A Duffy boat is a little electric vessel that only does three miles per hour (think of it as the PT Cruiser of the seas) and is designed to be gently piloted around the calm waters of Los Alomitos Bay and not the open ocean, thus destroying my plans for making a drugs/hookers run to Mexico.

Here’s our trusty boat, which I immediately christened RMS Titanic. Ev volunteered to drive so I could take pics and […]

Getty Villa, Malibu

A LOT of faces, I know, but as I’m averse to taking pics of real people I thought the statues would make a good change. And the 103 degrees of heat meant indoor shots were the most intelligent way to […]

It’s hot. Dam hot.*

ONE HUNDRED AND SEVEN DEGREES, to be precise. Add a hot, dry desert wind and I’m guessing the temperature hit 110. And it was bloody horrible.

Still, Hoover Dam was as majestic as I remembered from my first visit in 1989. It’s an incredible feat of engineering up there with the pyramids, St Paul’s Cathedral and Cher’s face. We decided to take a tour of the dam, forked over our $60 and went inside.

The tour is excellent. You go down to the base of the dam (where it’s a lovely 65 degrees) and see the turbine room, maintenance tunnels and even […]

Vegas from the top of the Eiffel Tower

NOT the real one, obviously. That would be silly. These were taken from the half-size tower at the Paris hotel/casino which is 460 feet tall. Vertigo? I nearly crapped myself.

It’s now 4am and we’re supposed to be leaving for Hoover Dam at nine, so I’m off to bed. If I’ve learned on vital lesson today, it’s that fifteen hours really is too long to wear a pair of Doc […]
